mindful self compassion course

Life can be challenging.

At times, our minds become caught in cycles of worry, self-criticism, or low mood. We may find ourselves dwelling on the past, fearing the future, or struggling to respond to life's difficulties with the steadiness we long for.

The encouraging news is that these patterns are not permanent. Through mindfulness and self-compassion, we can begin to understand them more clearly, relate to them differently, and gradually cultivate greater emotional balance and resilience.

In this four-week live online series, you'll explore practical, evidence-informed approaches to understanding the mind, working more skillfully with difficult emotions, and developing greater inner stability in everyday life.

Drawing on mindfulness, compassion, psychology, neuroscience, and extensive clinical experience, Alfie Wishart will guide you through meditation practices, reflection, and practical insights that you can continue to draw upon long after the series has ended.

Is This Course Right for You?

This 4-week course is designed for those with some experience of mindfulness who would like to deepen both their understanding and their practice.

You may find it especially valuable if you would like to:

✺ Better understand why the mind becomes caught in patterns of worry, anxiety, or low mood.

✺ Develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself during difficult times.

✺ Learn practical ways to respond to challenging emotions with greater awareness and balance.

✺ Cultivate greater calm, resilience, and hope in the face of life's uncertainties.

✺ Explore how mindfulness and compassion support emotional wellbeing through psychology, neuroscience, and contemplative practice.

✺ Strengthen your mindfulness practice in a way that is both practical and deeply relevant to everyday life.

This series is educational in nature and is intended to support personal learning and practice. It is not a substitute for psychotherapy, counselling, or medical treatment.

Your Journey Through the 4-week Course

Week 1 — Understanding the Mind

We'll begin by exploring the foundations of mindfulness and compassion, and why mindfulness is best understood as a form of mind training. Together, we'll look at how these practices have evolved, how they support emotional wellbeing, and establish a shared foundation for the weeks ahead.

Week 2 — Working with Anxiety

Anxiety is a natural human response, but it can easily become overwhelming. This session explores how anxiety develops, how the nervous system responds to stress, and how mindfulness and self-compassion can help us meet difficult moments with greater steadiness and balance.

Week 3 — Understanding Depression, Low Mood & Self-Criticism

This session explores the habitual patterns that often accompany low mood, including self-judgment, shame, and the stories we tell ourselves. Through mindfulness and compassion, we'll consider more skilful and supportive ways of relating to these experiences.

Week 4 — Cultivating Hope & Resilience

Hope is far more than wishful thinking. In our final session, we'll explore how mindfulness and compassion can help cultivate resilience, strengthen our inner resources, and support us in responding wisely to life's inevitable challenges.

A Practical Learning Experience

Each session includes:

  • Guided mindfulness and self-compassion practices
  • Practical insights from psychology and neuroscience
  • Gentle reflection and group discussion
  • Tools you can use in everyday life
  • Resources for continued learning and practice

This is a course designed not just to deepen your understanding, but to help you bring mindfulness and compassion into your daily life.
